AD/NG to Enlisted Special Forces

Army National Guard Soldiers

Current Army National Guard Soldiers must register to attend the Special Forces Readiness Evaluation (SFRE) conducted by their unit to go to Special Forces Assessment and Selection (SFAS). Most National Guard units in the 19th and 20th Special Forces Group conduct an SFRE every other month.

Although SFRE standards vary by unit, bare minimum standards for SFRE events are listed below. Keep in mind, SF candidates should shoot for well above the minimums.

Push Up – 57
Sit Up – 66
2 Mile Run – 14:24
Pull Up – 6
5 Mile Run – 40 minutes
12 Mile Ruck w/55lbs – 3 hours (15 minute mile pace)

Active Duty Military Personnel

Active Duty Army Soldiers and Service Members from the US Air Force, US Marine Corps, US Navy, and US Coast Guard can transition to the 19th or 20th Special Forces Group by enlisting with a “Try One” contract.  This allows Soldiers to have a 1 year contract into the Readiness Enhancement Company (REC) where soldiers are assessed to determine their readiness for SFAS. In the Readiness Enhancement, the “Try One” contract is only available through the SF Recruiter after ETS.

If a soldier successfully completes SFRE and is selected at SFAS, he will have to extend his contract for three years to complete the Special Forces Qualification Course (SFQC)
